WHAT WE ARE NOT

We are not a natural skin care company that still carries some harmful chemicals in their products without telling you, which 99% of supposedly natural skin companies do, let alone the commercial corporate giants. Most all products found at the health food stores, department stores, super markets, drug stores, or online that are labeled "organic," "natural," or "nothing artificial" are filled with contaminants, chemicals, and by-products that are known to cause serious problems.

Plus most natural skin care companies' products are just not capable of being utilized by the skin cells due to their unbalanced formulas, their ideas about pH, their misuse of molecular size and weight, and their incompatible ingredient combinations.

Health depleting ingredients are not in any AWARE SKIN products.

You will not find:

1. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) (laurate, laureth, or any sulfates)

This is a cheap synthetic detergent used as a sudsing agent in cleansers and as an emulsifier in creams and lotions.  In clinical studies around the world it has been identified as a skin irritant. The first question we must ask is why would a skin irritant be part of a so-called skin care product. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate enters the bloodstream and maintains toxic levels in the heart, the liver, the lungs and the brain from skin contact. SLS denatures proteins (strips vitality) — and our cells are made from proteins. SLS causes molecules to collapse, which requires extra effort to attempt to heal this destructive effect on the cells.

Two cells particularly known to be damaged by SLS are:
Skin cells, which could be a factor to early stages of skin cancer.
Corneal cells of the eye, which can be a cause of cataracts.

The American College of Toxicology stated, "Tests show permanent eye damage in young animals from skin contact in non-eye areas". In other words SLS can cause permanent eye damage through skin absorption without directly contacting the eyes!

2. Propylene Glycol

In skin and hair products propylene glycol acts as a humectant, which causes false retention of moisture content of the skin by preventing the natural escape of perspiration (sweat) or water. The Material Safety Data Sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with propylene glycol as this strong skin irritant can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage. Proplylene glycol - another skin care product skin irritant.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol and alcohol derivatives (esters, ethyls, phenols, and any "-ols") act as drivers and cleansers by stripping the skin of natural oils and immune system protectors. They are very drying to the skin, are readily absorbed, and require the liver to detoxify the alcohol.  They are linked to liver dysfunction, alcohol cravings, emotional agitation, and skin infections.

4. Parabens

Parabens are synthetic preservatives known to give people allergic reactions. They are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, create hormone imbalances, and have been found to mimic estrogen. Skin rashes, irritation, and suspected influence on breast cancer are related to parabens. The most common parabens are methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben.

5. Imidazolidinyl and Diazolidinyl Urea

These are formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, like those used to keep dead bodies from rotting at the mortuary. They are found in many "hypoallergenic" products — these products are far from hypoallergenic and should be avoided. Sensitivity to formaldehyde is a major component to "green" architecture, interior design, and skin care due to it's well reported influence on ADD, ADHD, cancer, environmental sensitivity, and autism.

6. Synthetic Colors

Synthetic colors are used in skin and hair care products to make them colorful, to hide chemical impurities, or to appear "homogenous" or uniform. They are labeled as FD&C or D&C followed by a number and color. They can cause allergic reactions along with skin, brain, and nerve problems.

7. Triethanolamine (TEA)

Triethanolamine is used as a pH balancer. However, chemical pH balancers fool the body instead of working with the natural immune system of the skin. Chemically altered pH can cause the body to react as if it is being properly fed or protected, allowing processes to occur that are actually harmful, because the chemical is toxic or unreal to natural function. (The incidence of skin cancer rose over 66% since 1990 — about the time the use of chemical sun block became wide spread.) This compound is drying to the skin and hair; can cause allergic reactions, including eye problems; and can be toxic to the body; and also contains alcohol.

8. Mineral Oil & Petroleum

Mineral oil and petroleum products are a cheap and ineffective attempt to moisturize the skin. Meaning: they don't work. These products actually clog the skin's pores and force the pores to enlarge in an attempt to breath. Which causes them to deform, plug up, and become problematic. Mineral oil and petroleum decrease the exchange of nutrients and elimination of waste products. They can cause allergic reactions and irritation. Found in almost all moisturizers, cleansers, make-up removers, baby oil, suntan oil, and petroleum jelly.

9. Fragrance

Fragrance means that a synthetic fragrance has been added, usually driven by alcohol. These chemicals can accumulate in your internal organs causing many symptoms such as headaches, lung problems, skin irritations, and hyper-pigmentation. Fragrance is a very cheap toxic imitation of real plant essences, scents, and aromas.

10. 1,4-Dioxane

1,4-Dioxane is a manufacturing solvent; also used in insecticides and antifreeze.  Skin care companies use dioxane as a foaming agent and a solvent to clean their equipment. Often found in makeup, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste and mouthwash.

1,4-Dioxane burns the eyes, lungs, and throat; can cause damage to the central nervous system, liver and kidneys; and is classified as a carcinogen by the known fact that it causes cancer in animals and most likely humans.

The State of California, under proposition 65, listed 1,4-dioxane as a chemical known to cause cancer on January 1, 1988.
